IIn 1999 a young enlisted Marine – had heard his Battalion CO was taking his Officers on a Ruck from Baltimore Harbor to Marine Barracks Washington D. A 30 plus mile ruck spanning 24 hours. As he watched the Officers enter back into the command – he watched in frustration in the fact this event – going back to honor the roots of the Marine Corps wasn’t open to enlisted Marines– so he set his sights that day. Over a decade later – in 2011 – a handful of patriots and veterans strapped on their back packs (aka Rucks) and rucked 181 miles from the Birthplace of the Marine Corps (Tunn Tavern – Philly PA) to the Iwo Jima War Memorial in Arlington VA in just 80 hours. This personal achievement for the few – grew into a mission – one that would create the 60 mile to Section 60 now known as the “60 to 60” and all future events under the Ruck to Remember Mission – all to raise awareness and support our warfighters and the history of Services.
